WORLD SLASHER CUP DEFENDING CHAMPIONS READY TO DUPLICATE FEAT

The three defending champions, particularly the “Gang of 4 from Chicago,” from the 207-entry 2009 World Slasher Cup I are reported to be hard at work in preparation for their upcoming cockfighting action. The “Gang of 4 from Chicago” of the MJRG entry composed of Martin Barla, Joe Carcillar, Robert Te and Rolly Gabon, who bagged the coveted title on their first try, are determined to hold on to their crowns to prove that their earlier victories were not just “tsamba” or due to luck.

“They’ll see that it’s not just beginner’s luck,” stated Bicolano Rolly Gabon, adding that they will again rely on Thunderbird; their handlers - twins Awel & Abong Rey and Jose Illustrada; gaffer Aba Angeles and Mark Remegio of Thunderbird will release the roosters once more.

The 2nd phase of the prestigious biannual cocking event, the 2009 World Slasher Cup 2, takes center stage at the Araneta Coliseum on May 12, 14 and 16 with more than 100 top-seeded entries expected to see action.

Araneta Center, with the support of Thunderbird Bexan – XP , the official B-complex of the Slasher, is again going full steam in presenting the 3-day “Cocking Olympics” to foreign and local aficionados.

Aiming for solo conquest, the successful tandem of Jorge Torres and former Davao Congressman Claude Bautista of the other champion Cucamonga entry is fielding a full show of aces from James Campbell (Osage Gamefarm) of Ohio, USA, this time.

“5 out of 8 that were fought in January by our champion entry were pure Yellow-leg Kelsos and Hatch Sweaters, all from Campbell. This time, they will all be from Osage,” a confident Jorge Torres revealed.

Expectations are also running high on whether the tandem of California’s Rodel Costales and local partner Benson Chua get to be “spoiled” again with their Spoiled Sa Amo entry, or will it be an effort gone spoiled this time?
